Day 8 28/03/2011

I HAVE MADE IT A WEEK! YAY!

So again today we are learning about CF. From the last post we have learnt that it is the most common life threatening genetic disease. And that I have had it since birth and it SUCKS!
But did you know that 1 in 25 people in Australia carry the CF gene, and that the life expectancy is 35 years old.

Little bit of a diagram for the viewers:

  1. Hi Amy
This project is developing amazingly well - you are really creating a very rich and wonderful self portrait where you connect with your viewer honestly and with humour. It is interesting to see the images, sometimes funny and sometimes clinical, juxtaposed to text that is also weaving various levels on narratives - the educational one, the personal one, the daily logistics, factual one. Have you had a chance to look at any of the photographers I recommended? I think the challenge with this work is finding the right balance of text and image ....have you thought or discussed with Julian a book maybe? It need not be an expensive one, there are so many ways of doing "books". You are very brave and your attitude to your condition is admirable. I think you would be a huge inspiration to the many people who live with chronic disease. This is an important work!

  2. Hi Amy, I found this story very compelling reading/viewing. I think the 'story' is developing well and you appear to be more at ease with the notion of telling it. It must be difficult because I'm sure you've told the story many times before. This telling of your story however is different, being a blog it asks people to contribute and I'm wondering how that will change you and your subsequent blog entries.
